Banana Pomegranate and Yogurt Smoothie

The refreshingly cold temperature of this smoothie benefits from using frozen banana pieces, along with ice and cold juice. The yogurt adds a pleasant tartness. A really ripe banana will add enough sweetness not to require any additional sweetener. (The color ain’t difficult on the eyes either.)

Ingredients:

½ cup (120ml) cold pomegranate juice
½ cup (140g) Greek style yogurt
1 banana (preferably cut in pieces and frozen) or 1 fresh banana
3 to 4 ice cubes*
1 pinch ground cinnamon
Optional: 1 to 2 packets stevia
Optional: 1 scoop protein powder (plus more pom juice if needed)

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients, in the order above, in the jar of a high-end blender such as a Vitamix. Start blending at low speed and slowly increase the speed to high. Blend about 40 seconds or until smooth.

*If using a conventional blender that might be damaged by ice, allow the frozen pieces to thaw before blending and use refrigerated water rather than ice.
