Triple Berry Smoothie
Serves 2.
By Dennis W. Viau; modified from book recipe.
I found a bag of mixed berries — raspberries, blackberries and blueberries — in the freezer case at a local market. Frozen fruits work well in smoothies when fresh fruits might be out of season. This smoothie has a rich dark color and is rich in flavor and nutrition.
Ingredients:
1½ cups (355ml) orange juice
1 medium carrot
1 cup (45g) spinach
1 medium banana
1 cup (130g) frozen mixed berries (raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon fresh mint
Directions:
Combine all the ingredients, in the order above, in the jar of a high-end blender such as a Vitamix. Start blending at low speed and slowly increase the speed to high. Blend about 40 seconds or until smooth.
If using a conventional blender that might be damaged by ice, allow the frozen pieces to thaw before blending.
